Dear Shadow Ridge Middle School students, families and staff,

Adams 12 Five Star Schools is dedicated to ensuring all students and their families feel safe, welcomed and supported within our educational community. Guided by our core values of care, collaborate, empower, engage and focus on students, we are committed to protecting the rights of every student and family, regardless of immigration status, national origin, or background.

In our diverse community, we recognize some students and their families may be struggling with intensely personal questions and concerns about the national landscape regarding immigration. Our critical mission – and our obligation under the law – is to ensure our schools are safe learning environments where a student’s race, ethnicity, religion and immigration status do not create any barriers to that child’s education.

Schools as Protected Areas
Schools are designated as protected areas under current Department of Homeland Security (DHS) guidelines. This means that immigration enforcement actions – such as arrests, interviews, searches, or surveillance – should not happen on school grounds. These guidelines help ensure that students and staff can learn and work without fear of disruption.

What You Can Do
We encourage families to take the following steps to stay informed and prepared:

Update Emergency Contact Information: Ensure your school has the most current contact details for your child, including those authorized to pick up your child in case of an emergency.
Attend “Know Your Rights” Sessions: Learn about your legal rights and protections as immigrant families.
