What Can We Expect at Middle School?
The start of middle school can be an anxious time for students and their parents. There is
excitement at a new beginning, the chance to meet new friends, have more class options and become more independent right alongside the stress of the unknown and the often negative reputation of “middle school.”
How does the middle school schedule work?
A middle school student's schedule will have 6 classes per day. Students will go to their "core" classes (language arts, social studies, science and math) each day. The other two periods of the day may change each quarter or semester. Some of the classes change at the end of a quarter, or at the end of a semester.
Always remember, it is crucial to be in touch with your student's teachers, especially when he or she is absent.
Where do I go for new student enrollment questions?
The Adams 12 Enrollment page will help you enroll new students.

-
-
To increase student accountability for devices, the district has instituted a Chromebook insurance program. When damage occurs to a device, a few things will occur. Please refer to this flowchart to see the way in which fines should be handled.
Incident Fines vs. Intentional Fines
Incident Fines: Incident fines should be used anytime a device is damaged by a student (no matter their grade level) and needs to be sent to the vendor for repairs. Some examples include but are not limited to: dropped device and the corner is chipped, purposely removing the hinge or keys, shattered screen or pixelation due to damage, broken AUX or USB port due to damage, etc. The BTC will determine if an incident fine should be assessed or if the damage is normal wear and tear.
Intentional Damage or full replacement of the device at $280 should only be used in cases of extreme damage that renders the device completely unusable and beyond repair. Your school's leadership should be made aware of a situation where this line is utilized.
Lost Devices
-
Mark the device lost and edit the amount - ensure you do this before you press okay!
-
First lost - $150
-
Subsequent losses are $280/loss
-
The default is $250
-
If you miss the editing step, you can waive $100 for the first lost item
-
If it is the second occurrence, you will need to delete the fine and go through the entire process to get the $280 fine on the student’s account
-
-
Student says it’s lost:
-
Put in a HEAT immediately to have it locked-include Serial Number and Destiny barcode
-
Submit a discrepancy request to find information on the last possible date used and user.
-
Mark the device lost in Destiny on student’s account (don’t check it in first) and add $150.00 fine
-
If the device is truly lost, the student is responsible for the fine.
-
If the device is returned, the fine will be automatically removed from the account.
-
Student doesn’t return loaner:
-
Mark lost in Destiny on student’s account (don’t check it in first) and add $150.00 fine
-
Wait 2 weeks to put in a HEAT ticket to have it locked. There are extenuating circumstances where you might want to lock it immediately. Please use your discretion when having it locked immediately as we want to give the students a grace period when returning the device.
Stolen Devices
The family must file a police report with local authorities and share the report with Adams 12 Family Tech Support. A charge will not be assessed for stolen devices.
Students returning from Summer Break with Damaged, Lost or Stolen Chromebooks

-
Lost? Mark it as lost, charge a fine and check out a replacement
-
Stolen? Submit an IT ticket and check out a replacement device
Chargers
Students returning from Summer Break without a charger
-
Replace the charger with their own via Amazon link OR
-
Receive a replacement charger and incur a $35 fine
Charger Replenishment
-
Schools are responsible for the management of their chargers.
-
Chargers are now a school based fine in Destiny meaning the money paid from the $35 fines in Destiny goes back in your school's textbook fund, a pupil activity fund.
Parents can replace the charger themselves instead of paying $35 in Destiny. (Chromebooks require a 45-watt USB-C Type charger. Here is an Amazon link.
Charger Fines
-
The Chromebook Charger fine is now a patron based fine. This means that it is not tied to a specific Chromebook.
-
You will need to manually enter the fine price, $35
-
If you school purchases a charger through Amazon and the price of the charger is $20, enter the charger fine as $20 (or whatever price you paid for the chargers.)
-
PLEASE discuss this with your building leadership on price and be consistent with the charges).
-
-
You can always encourage parents to buy a replacement charger through Amazon to avoid a charger fine. Here is an Amazon link.
